Before choosinga locationfor yournew phone,there are some importantguidelines you should consider:
• The location should be close to both a phone jack and continuous power outlet.
Note: A continuous power outlet is an ACoutlet whichdoes not have a switch tointerrupt itspower.
•Keep the BaseUnit andHandset away from sources ofelectrical noise such as motors orfluorescent
lighting.
• Be sure there is sufficient space to fully extend the Base Unit antenna.
•The Base Unitcan be placed on a desk ortabletop or mounted ona standardAT&T or GTEwall plate.
•If you decide to mount yourphone onthe wall,make sureto change thehandset retainer so that the tab
which holdsthe Handset faces up.(See page 10for moreinformation.)
•You should chargeyour new phonefor 15-20hours before completing theinstallation or using the
Handset.
Telephone Line Outlets
There are twotypes ofphone outlets:
Modular Jack
Most phone equipment available now uses modular jacks. Phonecords are fitted with a molded plastic
connector which plugs into thistype ofjack. Ifyou do not have modular phone jacks, contact your local
telephone companyfor information about their installation.
Hard-wiredJack
Some equipmentis wired directly to a phonejack, andthese types of installations require a modular jack
converter. Thistype of installation isnot difficult; however,you should contact yourUniden telephone dealer or
a telephonesupply storefor adviceabout the proper adapteror converterfor your particular situation.
Connecting the Telephone Cords
Consider thesesafety guidelines beforeconnecting the telephonecords:
Caution!
•
Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
•
Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected.
•
Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
Applying Power to the Base Unit
All the
DX834 phone requires an AC outlet, without a switch to interrupt power, and the included AC adapter.
To relieve strain on the DC plug when the phone is placed on a desk or table, connect the adapter as shown
below.
Wrap the power cord around theconvenient notch on thebottom.
Important:Place the power cord so thatit does notcreate a triphazard, orwhere it couldbecome chafedand
create a fire or other electrical hazards.
