I have a HX300 Floating transceiver and am trying to find out if it can communicate a 5 mile radius

I am confused about the Alpha attached to a channel. I am in Canada (on C) and my HX300 does not display anything but the channel numeric. How do I go to channel 22A when it does not exist? I find the user manual unclear.

The Standard Horizon HX300 is a portable two-way marine transceiver designed for communication in harsh environments. It is a Submersible Floating 5-Watt device that includes all allocated USA, International, or Canadian channels, as well as an emergency channel 16 that can be immediately accessed. The transceiver also features NOAA Weather channels for weather alerts, Memory Scanning, Priority Scanning, Dual and Tri-watch functions, and a large LCD display for easy reading. The battery life is displayed on the LCD screen, and the Water Enabled Light blinks automatically when the radio comes in contact with water, even if turned off. Additionally, the HX300 has a transmit Time-Out Timer (TOT) and provides a full 5 Watt of transmit power, with the option to select 1 Watt to conserve battery life.
