System Passwords The com puter provi des two levels of pass word securit y: adminis trati ve-le vel
(super visor) a nd us er-le vel (us er). Eit her password pre vents una uthoriz ed access to the
computer. T h e supe rvisor pa ss word enable s fu ll access to a ll Syste m S etup fiel ds. The
user pa ssword enab les ful l access to only theSet User P asswo rd an d Pa sswor d on
boot s ecu rity fi elds and read ac cess to all ot her Sys tem S etup fields .
If mul tiple users have acces s to the compu ter (such as in a net work environme nt ), a
s upe r vis or p a ssw or d ca n p re ven t u n aut hori ze d acces s to ce rtain se c urity opt io n s.
Choose the type of pa ssword s ecurity that is a ppropria te for your work. I f you want to
set a user pa ssword, you must set a supe rvis or p assword first .
If You Forget Your Password It is very importa nt that you do no t forget your password . If you do, you cannot access
your sys tem. Write your p assword down and kee p it in a safe place. If you do fo rget
and cannot find the written note, you will have to conta ct t he resel ler of your comput er
a nd po ssibl y t ake o r sen d it in t o th em s o tha t you ca n access th e co mpu ter a gai n.
Creating a Password To cr eat e a pas swor d f ol low th e in str ucti on s bel ow:
1. At startup, pre ss to open System Setup.
2. Us e to sel ec t th e Security menu.
3. Use to sel ec t Set Supervisor Password or Set User Password.
4. Press . The Set Passw ord dial og box appe ar s.
5. T ype a p as swo rd of up t o s eve n cha rac te rs.
Precaut ions f or Password Entr y:
You can enter let ters or numbers, but you cannot use t he func tion keys, such
as the Shi ft key. Your computer does not disti nguish between capital ized a nd
low erc as e lett ers i n you r p ass wo rd. A s y ou ty p e the p as sw or d, t he curso r
