Cooking Guide (continued) Cooking Guide for fresh vegetables Use a suitable gl ass Pyrex bowl with li d. Add 30-45 ml cold wate r (2-3 tbsp.) for every
250 g unless another water quantity i s recommended – see table. Cook covered for the
minimum time – s ee table. Continu e cooking to get the resul t you prefer. Stir once dur ing
and once after cook ing. Add salt, her bs or butter aft er cooking. Cove r during a standin g
time of 3 minutes.
Hint
: Cut the fresh ve getables in to even sized piec es. The smaller the y are
cut, the quic ker they wil l cook.
All fresh vegetabl es shou ld be co oked usin g full microwave power (9 00W).
REHEATING Your Smart Oven will rehea t food in a fract ion of the time that con ventional ov ens and
hobs normally take.
Use the power levels and r eheating times in the following char t as a guide. The ti mes in
the chart conside r liquids with a room temperature of about +18 to +20°C or a chilled
food with a temperatu re of about +0 to +5 °C.
Arranging and coverin g
Avoid reheating l arge items such as joi nt of meat - they tend to overcook and dry ou t
before the centre is piping hot. Reheating small pieces will be mo re successful.
Power leve ls and stirring
Some foods can be reheat ed using 900 W power while ot hers should be reheated using
600 W, 450 W or even 300 W.
Check the tables for guidance.
In general, it is better to re heat food using a l ower power level, i f the food is delicate, in
large qu antities, or if it is l ikely to h eat up very quickly (mince p ies, for e xample).
Stir well or tur n food over during r eheating for best results. When possi ble, stir agai n
before serving.
Take particular care when heating liquids and baby foods. To prevent er uptive boiling of
liquids and possi ble scaldin g, stir befor e, during and afte r heating. Keep them in the
Smart Oven during standing time. We recomm end putting a plastic spoon or glass stick
into the liquids. Avoid overheating (and therefore spoiling) the food. It is preferable to
underestimate cooki ng time and add extr a heating time, i f necessary.
Heating and standing times
When reheating food for the fir st time, it i s helpful to make a note of the time taken - for
future ref erence.
Always make sure th at the reheated fo od is piping hot throughout.
Allow food t o stand fo r a short t ime after reheating - to let the temperat ure even out. The
recommended standing time after reheat ing is 2-4 minutes, unless another ti me is
recommended in the char t.
Take particular care when heating li quids and baby food. See al so the chapter wit h the
safety precauti ons.
REHEATING LIQUIDS Always allow a standi ng time of at least 20 se conds after t he oven has been switched of f
to allow the t emperature to eve n out. Stir d uring heating, if necessary , and ALWAYS stir
after heating . To prevent erupt ive boiling an d possible scal ding, you should put a spoon
or glass stick i nto the beverages and st ir before, dur ing and after h eating.
