Analogue and Digital television -- what are they?
Analoguetransmissionisthesystemthathasbeenusedformanyyearsforbroadcastingtelevisionprogrammes.Withcontinuous
improvementsintechnologyitisnowpossibletotransmitprogrammesinadigitalformat,allowingclearerpictures,morestations
and other services to be displayed on screen. Digital television is provided in three different ways; it can be sent along a cable
connectiondirecttoyourhouse,broadcastfromasatellite,orbroadcastusingtraditionalland based(terrestrial)transmitters.The
firsttwo optionsrequireyoutohavean extrasettopbox decoderand inthe caseofsatellite,a receivingdishmountedoutdoors.
Whileallowing you to receive traditionalanaloguetransmissionsin theusualway,thistelevisioncan alsoreceive terrestrialdigital
services usingan integrated (DigitalVideo Broadcasting) decoder. This allowsyou toenjoy the new eraof digitalterrestrial
television, including future interactive services, without the need for a set top box or satellite dish -- your current roof or loft
mounted antenna is all you need.
