MAYTAG TOP LOADING WASHING MACHINE QUICK START GUIDE

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons,
read the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, located in your
appliance’s Owner’s Manual, before operating this appliance.
Step 1. ADD HE DETERGENT
Designed to use only HE (High
Efficiency) detergents.
NOTE: See ADDING LAUNDRY
PRODUCTS (below) for more
information on adding HE detergent,
fabric softener, and/or bleach.
Step 3. PRESS POWER TOTURN ON THEWASHERStep 5. ADJUST CYCLESETTINGS ANDSELECT ADDITIONALOPTIONS*Step 2. LOAD CLOTHES
For best results, load garments in loose
heaps evenly around the basket wall.
Step 4. SELECT THE DESIREDCYCLE FOR YOURLOAD*Step 6. PRESS AND HOLDSTART/PAUSE TOBEGIN CYCLE
NOTE: Start button must be held for
1 second to start cycle. Once the status
lights are illuminated, release the start
button.
*Not all cycles, settings or options are available with all models.
ADDING LAUNDRY PRODUCTS
IMPORTANT: Using non-HE detergent will likely result in longer cycle times
and reduced rinsing performance. It may also result in component
malfunction and, over time, buildup of mold or mildew. HE detergents should
be low-sudsing and quick-dispersing to produce the right amount of suds for
the best performance.
ADDING HE DETERGENT TO BASKET
Add a measured amount of HE detergent or single-
dose laundry packets into the basket. If using oxi-type
boosters, color-safe bleach, or fabric softener
crystals, add to the bottom of the washer basket
before adding clothes.
NOTE: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to
determine the amount of laundry products to use.
ADDING LIQUID CHLORINE BLEACH
Do not overfill, dilute, or use more than 1 cup
(236 mL). Do not use color-safe bleach or oxi
products in the same cycle with liquid chlorine bleach.
ADDING LIQUID FABRIC SOFTENER TO DISPENSER
Pour a measured amount of liquid fabric softener into
dispenser; always follow manufacturer’s directions for
correct amount of fabric softener based on your load
size. Dilute liquid fabric softener by filling the
dispenser with warm water until liquid reaches the
underside of the rim. See Max Fill line arrows.
NOTE: When using fabric softener, always use the
Soil & Rinse knob to select a setting with ‘+Extra
Rinse.’ This will ensure that no fabric softener
remains on clothing after the cycle is finished.

DEEP FILL
Use the Deep Fill knob to determine how much water you want to
add to your wash cycle. Set it to Auto for the machine to
automatically determine the optimal water level. Set it to Max for
the maximum allowable water level for that cycle. Higher water
levels can be used to reduce the likelihood of white residue on
dark clothing.
SOIL AND RINSE
Use this knob to choose the soil level as well as the number of
rinses desired. If using fabric softener, make sure to use the
two topmost settings which add an Extra Rinse to the cycle.
EXTRA POWER
Turn the Extra Power knob to On for a boost in cleaning
performance on any wash cycle.
NOTE: If the washer detects an out-of-balance condition it may
pause and attempt and re-distribute the load. During this time
the Sense and Wash status indicators will both briefly
illuminate.
WARNING: Do not wash water-resistant or water repellant-
type clothing. Failure to closely follow these instructions may
result in an abnormal vibrating and out-of-balance condition
that could result in physical injury, property damage, and/or
appliance damage.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT CYCLE

A cycle guide for your washer can be
found online at www.maytag.com. The
document will help identify which cycle
to choose for various load types as well
as the default cycle options. For
example we recommend using the
Normal cycle with Warm water for
cottons, linens and mixed-garment
loads.

PRE-TREATING BEFORE A WASH

CYCLE

Turn the cycle knob to
Water Faucet and press
and hold the Start Button
to turn on, press the Pause
button or Power button to
turn off.
Faucet will automatically shut off after 10 minutes or when
max
water level is reached.
Water will automatically drain if water level becomes too
high. Water will also drain after 10 minutes if the lid is left
open or 3 hours if the lid is left closed.

MORE WATER WHEN YOU WANT IT

AUTO SENSING AND DEEP FILL
When you select Deep Fill-Auto, the washer
will adjust the water level to the optimal
amount for a High Efficiency wash of the
detected load size.
Select Deep Fill - Med, High or Max to
automatically add more water to your wash
cycle.
It is recommended to use Bulky Items cycle with Deep Fill - Max
option
for loads where maximum water level is desired.
Expect longer cycle times due to extended fill duration when using
the Deep Fill options besides Auto.

CLEANING WITH LESS WATER

The washer has been designed and
optimized to provide a thorough cleaning
using less water to conserve energy and
resources.
As the washer dampens and moves the
load, the level of the items will settle in the
basket. This is normal, and does not
indicate that more items should be added.
IMPORTANT: You will not see a full basket of water as with
older, less efficient washing machines. It is normal for some of
the load to be above the water line.
For detailed installation instruction and maintenance information, winter storage, and transportation tips, please see the Owner’s Manual
included with
your machine.

We live in an area where the water goes out. It is customary to fill the washing machine as another method of having water available. You stop this machine; it throws the water away. How do you make sure this doesn't happen?

I talked to Maytag to make sure I got a washer that would allow me to soak. I was told this model allows for soaking. How is this done??? The door locks so I can't open it when the machine loads the water.

I have a new Maytag washer MVW5035MW. The machine turns on but will not move past "Sense". The Sense light flashes for a few minutes but never moves to the Fill/Soak stage. My dials are set to: Extra Power-Warm-Towels-Medium and Auto.

Can't find the answer to your question in the manual? You may find the answer to your question in the FAQs about the Maytag MVW5035MW below.

What temperature should I use for my laundry?

The washing label of your garment shows the recommended washing temperature.

Do I need to use an anti-scaling agent for my washing machine?

It is not necessary to use an anti-scaling agent. Scale deposits can be prevented by limiting washing at high temperatures and using the recommended amount of detergent per wash.

How do I prevent my washing machine from smelling?

Unpleasant odours can be avoided by occasionally washing at 60 degrees and using the recommended amount of detergent per wash.

Why isn't the washing machine turning on when I press the power button?

Make sure the machine is properly plugged in and the power cord is securely connected to the outlet. Check the circuit breaker to ensure it hasn't tripped. If these are all in order, there might be an issue with the power supply or internal components, in which case you should contact a professional technician for assistance.

Why is water leaking from underneath the washer?

Check that the water supply hoses are securely connected and not damaged. Make sure the drain hose is properly inserted into the standpipe or drain opening. If the issue persists, there could be a problem with the water inlet valve or pump, requiring professional attention.

How can I resolve excessive vibration or shaking during the wash cycle?

Confirm that the machine is level by adjusting the leveling feet as necessary. Ensure that the load is distributed evenly inside the drum and not overloaded. Examine the floor beneath the washer to make sure it is stable and not causing the vibration. If the problem persists, there might be an issue with the suspension system or drum, and it's advisable to seek professional assistance.

Why are my clothes coming out wrinkled after washing?

Ensure that you are following the recommended load size and not overstuffing the washer. Select the appropriate wash cycle for the fabric type to avoid excessive agitation. If wrinkles persist, promptly remove the clothes from the machine after the cycle ends to prevent them from sitting too long. Additionally, adjusting the spin speed or using a different temperature setting may help reduce wrinkles.

How can I troubleshoot a spinning or agitating issue during a cycle?

Check whether the lid or door is completely closed and securely latched. Ensure that the cycle has been properly selected and initiated. If the issue persists, there might be a problem with the motor, drive belt, or transmission, which would require professional diagnosis and repair.
