My HP Deskjet 990cxi is about 10 years old and has given very good service in that time. However, yesterday the paper suddenly started to have interference from 3 small nibs of plastic under the paper feed. I understand that the nibs help eject the sheet once printed. Now they are pushing the paper upwards slightly so that the sheet drags across the printhead and causes smears and lines. Is there a remedy? I presume that the nibs are supposed to retract downwards whislt printing. I can't say that I have ever noticed them before. The printer was working perfectly until yeasterday and I don't recall any paper feer problems proir to the current situation. we use the printer most days.
