2.1 Removing the Old Thermostat

IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, CUT
POWER TO THE HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM.

Remove the old thermostat to access the wires.

Warning: If the old thermostat was mounted onto an electrical box,
it was probably powered by 120/240 volts. In this case, this thermo-
stat cannot be used.

Identify and label each wire (with the corresponding letter on

the wire terminal) and remove them from the terminals.
If necessary, strip the end of each wire (maximum of 1/4 inch).

Wrap the wires around a pencil to prevent

them from falling into the wall.

If the hole in the wall is too big, insulate it

using a non-flammable material in order to
avoid air draughts behind the thermostat.

2.2 Installing the New Baseplate

For a new installation, choose a location approximately 5 feet
(1.5 m) above the floor and on an inside wall. Avoid draughty
areas (top of staircase, air outlet, etc.), dead air spots (behind
doors), direct sunlight or areas near concealed pipes or chim-
neys.

Remove the thermostat faceplate.

Loosen the locking screw in order to separate the thermostat

from its baseplate (the screw cannot be completely removed).

Gently tilt the thermostat upwards.

Mark and bore the appropriate mounting holes (using a 3/16”

drill bit) or use the existing holes. Insert the plastic anchors.

Pass the wires through the opening of the baseplate and fix the

baseplate to the wall using the screws provided.

2.3 Connecting the Thermostat

Refer to the following table for matching the wire labels with the
thermostat terminals.
Note: Do not connect wires identified as C, X or B. Wrap the bare
end of these wires with electrical tape.
Important: The red jumper wire between Rh and Rc terminals must
be removed in a 5-wire installation.

Can't find the answer to your question in the manual? You may find the answer to your question in the FAQs about the Honeywell RTH2520B below.

Where is the best location to place the thermostat?

The best place for the thermostat is the room where you spend the most time, in many cases the living room or kitchen. Place the thermostat about one and a half metres above the floor, not in the sun and not on an outside wall.

What is the dead band of a thermostat?

If your thermostat has a dead band, your installation is, as it were, 'at rest'. The thermostat only switches on when, for example, the difference deviates more than 2˚C from the set room temperature.

What is the ideal room temperature?

Most people find that the ideal room temperature is between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius.

Why is my thermostat not turning on at the set time?

Ensure that the thermostat is in "Program" mode and that the correct time and day are set. Additionally, check if the batteries need replacement.

How can I adjust the temperature displayed on the thermostat?

Press the "Up" or "Down" button on the thermostat to increase or decrease the desired temperature accordingly.

Why is my thermostat not maintaining the desired temperature?

Verify that the thermostat's fan setting is appropriately configured (usually set to "Auto" for optimal energy efficiency). Additionally, check if there are any air leaks around the thermostat or if the HVAC system requires maintenance.

What does "Hold" mode mean, and how can I use it?

"Hold" mode allows you to manually set a constant temperature, overriding the programmed schedule. Simply press the "Hold" button on the thermostat to activate it, and then adjust the temperature as desired.

How can I switch between heating and cooling modes?

Press the "System" button on the thermostat to switch between heating and cooling modes. Ensure that your HVAC system is capable of both heating and cooling and that it is properly connected to the thermostat.
