2.1 Removing the Old Thermostat

IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, CUT
POWER TO THE HEATING SYSTEM.

n Remove the old thermostat to access the wires.

Warning: If the old thermostat was mounted onto an electrical box,
it was probably powered by 120/240 volts. In this case, this thermo-
stat cannot be used.
o Identify and label each wire (with the corresponding letter on
the wire terminal) and remove them from the terminals.

p If necessary, strip the end of each wire (maximum of 1/4 inch).

q Wrap the wires around a pencil to prevent

them from falling into the wall.

r If the hole in the wall is too big, insulate it

using a non-flammable material in order to
avoid air draughts behind the thermostat.

2.2 Installing the New Baseplate

For a new installation, choose a location approximately 5 feet
(1.5 m) above the floor and on an inside wall. Avoid draughty
areas (top of staircase, air outlet, etc.), dead air spots (behind
doors), direct sunlight or areas near concealed pipes or chim-
neys.

n Remove the thermostat faceplate.

o Loosen the locking screw to separate the thermostat from its

baseplate (the screw cannot be completely removed).

p Tilt the thermostat upwards.

q Mark and bore the appropriate mounting holes (or use the

existing holes). Insert the plastic anchors.

r Pass the wires through the opening of the baseplate and fix the

baseplate to the wall using the screws provided.

2.3 Connecting the Thermostat

The connection of the new thermostat should be similar to that of
the old thermostat; however, it can vary depending on the installa-
tion.
Note: The red jumper wire between the Rc and Rh terminals must
be removed in 2- or 5-wire installations. The jumper must be used in
3- or 4-wire installations if you wish to use the mode selector switch
for the fan.

Can't find the answer to your question in the manual? You may find the answer to your question in the FAQs about the Honeywell RTH230B below.

Where is the best location to place the thermostat?

The best place for the thermostat is the room where you spend the most time, in many cases the living room or kitchen. Place the thermostat about one and a half metres above the floor, not in the sun and not on an outside wall.

What is the dead band of a thermostat?

If your thermostat has a dead band, your installation is, as it were, 'at rest'. The thermostat only switches on when, for example, the difference deviates more than 2˚C from the set room temperature.

What is the ideal room temperature?

Most people find that the ideal room temperature is between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius.

Why is the display on my thermostat not turning on?

Make sure to check if the thermostat is securely connected to the power source and if the circuit breaker is not tripped. Additionally, verify that the batteries are properly installed and functional.

How can I adjust the temperature settings on my thermostat?

To adjust the temperature settings, press the up or down arrow buttons on your thermostat until the desired temperature is displayed.

Why is my thermostat not turning on the heating/cooling system?

Ensure that the thermostat is set to the desired mode (heat/cool), and the temperature is set higher/lower than the current room temperature accordingly. Also, check if the heating/cooling system's power switch is turned on and any relevant breakers or fuses are functioning correctly.

Can I program different temperature settings for different times of the day on my thermostat?

Unfortunately, this model does not have programmable features. You would need a different thermostat model with programmable capabilities to set different temperature schedules.

How can I change the battery on my thermostat?

At the bottom of your thermostat, locate the battery door. Open it, remove the old batteries, and insert new AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the battery door, and the thermostat should start functioning with the new batteries.
