A gentle and thorough cleaning of the Handpresso Pump is important to maintain its optimal performance. Start by removing the coffee grounds and rinsing all detachable parts with water. Use a soft cloth and mild dish soap to wipe clean the exterior and the brewing chamber. Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling.
To customize the strength of your coffee, you can control the extraction time during the brewing process. For a stronger cup, increase the pumping pressure slightly and extend the brewing time. Alternatively, for a milder coffee, reduce the pumping pressure and decrease the brewing time. Experimentation and personal preference are key factors here!
To prevent leakage, make sure the Handpresso Pump is properly sealed. Double-check that the coffee handle is tightly closed and the pressure release valve is securely in the closed position. Additionally, ensure the coffee grounds are evenly distributed in the brewing chamber and avoid over-tamping for a smooth extraction.
The Handpresso Pump is designed to reach the ideal brewing temperature of approximately 94°C (201°F). To make sure it has reached this temperature, manually pump the device for about 20-30 seconds and then wait for an additional 30 seconds to allow the heat to evenly distribute. This waiting period helps ensure the coffee grounds are fully saturated and the extraction is optimal.
If you experience slow or weak coffee flow, first check if the coffee handle is fully closed and if the pressure release valve is properly closed. Additionally, ensure the pump is fully pressurized before extraction. If the issue persists, try using a finer grind size or adjusting the tamping pressure to improve extraction and potentially enhance the flow.

I can pump to the correct pressure but once the pressure is released it drops to zero with only half the water emptying into the cup and the water remaining very slowly dripping through resulting in a long wait for a cold espresso. I've had this machine many years with no previous problems.
