TVG (Time Varied G ain) compensat es
for propagation at tenuati on of the
ultrasoni c waves. It does this by
equaliz ing echo presentat ion so that
fish schoo ls of the same siz e appear in
the same de nsity in both shallow an d
deep waters. I n addition, it reduces
surface nois e. Note that if the TVG
level is set too high short r ange
echoes may not be displa yed.

If the on-screen ec ho level app ears to
be too weak or too stron g and the
level ca nnot be adju sted satis factorily
with the gain cont rol, adju st echo
offset to compens ate for too wea k or
too strong echoes.

If the depth ind ication is u nstable in
automati c operatio n or the bottom
echo cann ot be display ed in
reddish-brow n by adjustin g the gain
control in manual oper ation, you may
adjust the bot tom echo lev el dete ction
circuit , for both HF and LF, to stabiliz e
the indicat ion. Not e that if the lev el is
set too low w eak echoes may be
missed an d if set too high t he depth
indi ca tion will no t be di splaye d.
