The following causes and remedies describe why your computer may
not recognize the printer.
When the Printer is Not Recognized
CauseThe printer driver not installed.
RemedyInstall the printer driver before connecting the printer to
the computer. (See p.14)
If the problem persist, check if the printer driver is
already installed. Once any version of the printer driver
is installed, you need to uninstall it before you re-install
the printer driver.
CauseThe printer is not connected to the computer.
RemedyConnect the printer to the computer correctly. (See
p.16)
CauseThe USB interface provided as standard with your
computer is not compatible with the printer.
RemedyNot all USB interfaces provided as standard with
personal computers are guaranteed. Contact your local
authorized Canon dealer for more detailed information.
CauseUSB cable is not compatible with the printer.
RemedyUse the USB cable provided with the printer.
CauseUSB hub is not compatible with the printer.
RemedyRemove the USB hub to use the printer.
Feeding Trouble
CausePaper is not fed. A paper jam occurs.
Remedy–Check that paper is loaded in the printer properly.
–Check that the Paper Cover is closed tightly.
–When a print error is occurring, clear the error.
–When the Platen Roller is dirty, clean it.
Printing Trouble
CauseThe power cannot be turned ON. The power goes
OFF.
RemedyCheck that the power cord is connected properly.
CauseThe printer does not print.
Remedy–Check that the power cord is connected properly.
–Check that paper is loaded in the printer properly.
–Check that the Paper Cover is closed tightly.
–When a print error is occurring, clear the error.
–When the Platen Roller is dirty, clean it.
–Perform a test print to check that the printer is
functioning properly. (See p.32)
CauseThe printer prints too dark or too light.
Remedy–Check that the specified paper is used.
–Check that paper is loaded in the printer properly.
–Check that the Paper Cover is closed tightly.
–When the Platen Roller is dirty, clean it.
CauseThe printer prints slow.
Remedy–If a document contains many black areas, the printer
may print more slowly. This is not a sign of a
malfunction.
–If room temperature is too low, the printer may print
more slowly. This is not a sign of a malfunction.
