Can't find the answer to your question in the manual? You may find the answer to your question in the FAQs about the A&D Medical UA-631 below.
Systolic pressure is the top number that the blood pressure monitor will indicate. Systolic pressure refers to the amount of pressure in your arteries during the contraction of your heart muscle.
Diastolic pressure is the lowest number that the blood pressure monitor will indicate. The bottom number refers to your blood pressure when your heart muscle is between beats.
A normal blood pressure is about 120/80.
Start by selecting the appropriate cuff size for your arm circumference. Wrap the cuff around your upper arm, ensuring it is snug but not too tight. Align the bottom edge of the cuff about 2-3 centimeters above the bend of your elbow.
Position the stethoscope over the brachial artery, which is located just below the cuff on the inner side of your arm. Ensure that the earpieces are inserted securely in your ears to minimize external noise interference.
Use the inflation bulb to gradually inflate the cuff, while simultaneously checking the pressure gauge. Inflate until the gauge reads approximately 30 millimeters of mercury (mmHg) above your typical systolic pressure, around 180 mmHg for most adults.
Ensure that the earpieces of the stethoscope are properly inserted in your ears and that the earpieces create a tight seal. Try repositioning the stethoscope over the brachial artery and adjusting its angle if necessary. Additionally, make sure that the room is quiet to minimize external noise.
The systolic pressure (the higher value) represents the maximum pressure in your arteries during a heartbeat, while the diastolic pressure (the lower value) represents the minimum pressure between beats. Ensure that you are in a relaxed position, and note the values displayed on the gauge when you hear the first continuous beat (systolic) and when the sounds disappear (diastolic).
